| es_PE |
| dc.description.abstract | The objective of this research was to determine which demographic characteristics are associated with low birth weight among newborns delivered at Las Mercedes Regional Teaching Hospital. It was a quantitative, observational, analytical, retrospective, and cross-sectional study. Records were found for 240 newborns with low birth weight. Maternal sociodemographic characteristics such as age, occupation, educational level, marital status, and socioeconomic status were described. Anthropometric variables such as maternal weight and height were also analyzed. Normality was assessed using Kolmogorov-Smirnov, and associations were estimated using Spearman's correlation (α=0.05). The results showed that mothers aged 23–27 years predominated (25.0%), most were housewives (75.0%), had secondary education (66.25%), and had low socioeconomic status (71.25%). Maternal weight was mainly between 52–73 kg (66.25%). The most frequent gestational age was 37–39 weeks (53.33%), and Capurro age was 37–38 weeks (43.33%). Neonatal weight was mostly grouped between 2.316–2.499 kg (48.75%). A positive and significant correlation was observed between Capurro age and neonatal weight (ρ = 0.37; p < 0.001) and between gestational age and neonatal weight (ρ = 0.391; p < 0.001). However, no significant correlation was found between maternal weight and neonatal weight (p = 0.263) or between maternal height and neonatal weight (p = 0.244). It was concluded that a maternal profile of social vulnerability characterized the studied population; greater gestational maturity was associated with higher neonatal weight within the low-birth-weight group, whereas the maternal anthropometric measures evaluated did not explain variations in neonatal weight. | es_PE |
