In the village of Marayhuaca, in the district of Incahuasi, province of Ferreñafe,
Lambayeque, lies the Secondary School No. 10817, with approximately 200
students, located at an altitude of 3630 meters above sea level. The low
temperatures and water temperatures of around 8°C make daily hygiene and
thermal comfort difficult. To address this problem, the research aimed to design a
solar thermal collector for heating water for student hygiene. Analysis of the solar
resource revealed favorable conditions, with an average irradiation of 4.97
kWh/m2·day, sufficient for energy use. The estimated demand was 600 L/day,
equivalent to 13,95 kWh/day, which served as the basis for sizing the system. Using
a morphological matrix and a technical-economic evaluation, a flat-plate solar
collector with efficient and easily maintained components was selected. The final
design indicated a collector area of 6,5 m2, a 700 L storage tank, and a 2 kW auxiliary
system, successfully meeting the daily hot water demand. The approximate
investment was S/ 16 038, with annual savings of approximately S/ 1 660 and a
payback period of around 10 years. It is concluded that the system is technically
viable and socially relevant, as it improves hygiene, well-being, and the use of
renewable energy in the school environment.
