The general objective of this research was to evaluate the antagonistic activity of
Trichoderma spp. against Fusarium spp., isolated from the rhizosphere of Zea mays L. in
the district of Illimo, Lambayeque. The study had a quantitative approach, was applied in
type, and reached an explanatory level. For the descriptive phase, 45 samples of
rhizospheric soil were collected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. In the
experimental phase, a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with eight treatments and
three replicates was used to test the hypothesis. As results, 598 fungi were isolated,
identifying a dominance of Fusarium (55.69%) and Trichoderma (39.46%), from which
14 morphotypes of the pathogen and 35 strains of the antagonist were selected. In vivo
pathogenicity tests revealed that morphotypes M3, M13, and M14 possess maximum
virulence, suppressing seedling emergence by 100%. In in vitro assays, 100% of the
Trichoderma spp. strains exceeded the selection threshold (>50%), reaching mycelial
growth inhibition percentages (MGIP) between 92.67% and 97.82%. It is concluded that
the native strains of Trichoderma spp. exhibit severe antagonism (Grade 3 on the Bell
scale) against Fusarium spp., validating their potential as biological control agents in corn
crops.
