| es_PE |
| dc.description.abstract | Phagocytosis is an essential mechanism of innate immunity through which macrophages recognize, engulf, and eliminate pathogenic microorganisms. However, Staphylococcus aureus has developed evasion strategies that hinder its elimination by phagocytic cells, promoting the persistence of infections and exacerbating the problem of antibiotic resistance. In this context, medicinal plants with immunomodulatory properties have emerged as a promising alternative due to the presence of bioactive compounds capable of enhancing the immune response. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of aqueous extracts of Aloe vera, Allium sativum, and Curcuma longa on in vivo phagocytic activity in Mus musculus BALB/c inoculated with Staphylococcus aureus. A total of 30 Mus musculus BALB/c specimens, three aqueous extracts, and one Staphylococcus aureus strain were used. The results demonstrated that all three extracts increased phagocytic activity. Aloe vera showed the highest percentage of active macrophages (63.30%), followed by Allium sativum (56.42%) and Curcuma longa (50.46%). Regarding the average number of phagocytosed bacteria, Allium sativum achieved the highest value (24.08), followed by Curcuma longa (21.04) and Aloe vera (14.50). It was concluded that all three extracts exerted a significant immunomodulatory effect, with Aloe vera exhibiting the greatest enhancement of phagocytic activity, while Allium sativum promoted the highest average number of phagocytosed bacteria. | es_PE |
