diseño no experimental longitudinal.
The purpose of this research was to determine the underlying factors that explain the
behavior of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) categories in the Lambayeque region during the
period 2010–2021, through the application of factor analysis. The research is a quantitative,
applied, descriptive study with a longitudinal, non-experimental design. The population and
sample consisted of the monthly CPI records for the eight consumer categories in Chiclayo
over a period of 144 months. Descriptive statistics and factor analysis were used for the
statistical processes. The main results were that Food and Beverages had the highest average
index (128.136), and that Transportation and Communications had the greatest dispersion of
the index (SD = 15.387). For the indices of the eight divisions, a KMO of 0.892 and a
significant Bartlett's test (p < 0.001) were obtained, identifying a factor with an eigenvalue of
7.712 that explained 95.91% of the variance. In the variations, Housing Rental, Fuel, and
Electricity were excluded because they presented an MSA of 0.419, and two factors were
obtained that explained 30.13% of the extracted variance. It was concluded that the indices
exhibit a predominantly unidimensional factor structure, while their variations show a more
heterogeneous structure.
