ron: movimiento no amortiguado, movimiento sobreamortiguado, movimiento críticamente
The general objective of the research was to develop an executable graphical user in-
terface in Matlab to solve second-order ordinary differential equations in mechanical vibra-
tions using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. The study was applied in nature, with a
quantitative-experimental approach, since it was aimed at building a useful tool for the nu-
merical and graphical analysis of vibratory systems. The methodology included the design
of the graphical interface, the programming of the numerical method, the transformation of
second-order equations into first-order systems, the analytical and numerical development of
seven study cases, and the validation of results through comparison with the analytical so-
lution and with Matlab?s ode45. The developed cases were: undamped motion, overdamped
motion, critically damped motion, underdamped motion, forced vibration, forced vibration
without damping, and forced vibration without damping in resonance. In all of them, the
analytical solution, the numerical solution, and the verification through the executable were
carried out. The results showed that the tool made it possible to solve, compare, and visuali-
ze each case clearly. It was also observed that, with a small number of subintervals, the RK4
method produced errors in some problems; however, when the number of subintervals was
increased, the approximation improved considerably and became closer to the analytical
solution and to ode45. It was concluded that the developed executable fulfilled its purpose
of facilitating the solution and analysis of vibratory problems, and that its structure allowed
input data to be changed easily, so it could be adapted to solve any equation applied to
mechanical vibrations within the developed model.
